Brief: To modernise & generally improve the design of this self-built website; optimise for search engines (SEO) for local searches.

The starting point
Gaby had built a website herself, using the drag-and-drop builder Wix. It was fine; it gave visitors the information they needed but, honestly, it wouldn’t have won any design awards.
The website needed stronger branding & a simplified design – it had a lot of pages so the navigation needed to be as clear as possible.
Gaby was also struggling to make it look good on a mobile.
As well as an overhauled design, Gaby wanted me to help her website to appear in search engine results when someone was looking for a dietitian or nutritionist in Nottingham or West Bridgford.
We spent time creating some clarity around the services Gaby offered and how they could best be showcased on the website. I advised on which pages we should create and how it might be best to display them on the website’s menu.
This is important from an SEO perspective but it’s also really useful to have an objective person who doesn’t know your business like you do, to imagine how a new visitor might feel when navigating your website.
We discussed use of colours and I helped Gaby create a colour palette she was happy with. Of course, this sort of thing can be done by a graphic designer but sometimes clients either cannot afford to use one or simply don’t feel that it is necessary at that stage of their business.
Gaby was using a number of photographs on the website but they were all very different – I helped her source some stock food-related imagery which fitted both her brand & the feel she wanted for her website. (I have a pro-account with a number of stock image sites as well as professional photographers I can recommend.)
To keep costs down, we agreed that I would create a few template pages – one for condition-specific pages (e.g: IBS) and one for location-specific pages (these pages were hidden from the menu but findable by search engines, so they helped Gaby’s website appear in location-specific searches).
At several stages throughout the design process, Gaby was able to give feedback.
The Final Result
Gaby’s site was finished within a few weeks and she soon found – as her testimonial at the top of this post reflects – that she was getting more traffic & a greater number of new enquiries.
